The Keating Machine 24 Valve Billet Tappet Cover VP44 w/o Breather Port is a precision-machined upgrade for 1998.5–2002 Cummins 5.9L 24-valve engines equipped with the VP44 injection pump. This version works specifically with engines that already use the factory crankcase breather located on the front timing cover.
By replacing the factory stamped-steel tappet cover, this billet design improves strength, sealing reliability, and long-term oil control while preserving an OEM-style layout.
Billet Construction & Sealing
Keating Machine machines this tappet cover from high-quality billet aluminum for consistent thickness and strength. As a result, the cover resists flex and oil seepage that commonly occur with factory parts.
An integrated O-ring sealing surface seals directly against the engine block. This design eliminates paper gaskets and reduces the risk of leaks under heat and vibration.
No-Breather Configuration
This non-breather tappet cover suits VP44 engines that retain the factory breather port on the front timing cover. Because of this, it avoids unnecessary hoses and keeps the engine bay clean and simple.
While Keating offers breather-port versions with –12AN fittings, this model focuses on a sealed, OEM-style configuration.
Internal Design & Compatibility
The internal design supports drop-in tappets and factory flat mushroom tappets. It also allows the engine control module to mount back in the factory location using stock hardware, which preserves proper wiring routing.
However, this tappet cover does not provide clearance for aftermarket roller lifters. It works best for stock or mildly upgraded valvetrain setups.
Installation & Fitment
This tappet cover installs as a direct bolt-on replacement. No modification is required. Stainless steel mounting hardware is included for corrosion resistance and long service life.
